REPORT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF THE ALSA-NIGERIAN CHAPTER PRESIDENT AS JUSTICE OF THE MAUN SUPREME COURT - ALSA-NG EDITORIAL BOARD

It is our distinct pleasure to present this report on the appointment of the esteemed Amb. Shuaibu Bashir Mukaddam, the current President of the African Law Students Association, Nigerian Chapter on the 4th of December 2024, as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger, Kano State, Nigeria (MAAUN). The esteemed President Honourable Justice Shuaibu Bashir Mukaddam, was officially inaugurated as Justice No 2 of the Supreme Court of MAAUN.

Amb. Bashir is a true paragon of excellence and dedication. His appointment as the Justice of the Supreme Court of MAUN is a well-deserved achievement, having regard to his unwavering commitment to excellence, unrelenting work ethic, and unshakeable integrity. He has earned a reputation as a prestigious and honourable law student of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria.

 

The event kicked off immediately after the Law Students Symposium at the University, where the handing over ceremony of the Students Representative Council (SRC) commenced. A Procession was then led by the University's Judicial Officers which was a sight to behold. The standing revered culture of the student’s corpus followed, where they recognized the accomplishments of the serving judicial officers and the breaking of pens by the judicial officers to mark the end of their fruitful administration.

The Faculty Program Manager, Muhammad Alfa Muhammad then administered the oath of office to the newly appointed supreme court justices under the watch of Hon. Justice Abdulsalam Sanda Yalwa. This event has not only graced the walls of history, as it is novel, in the sense that this is the first time the office of the supreme court justices has been provided for, but has commemorated the culture of the student body. 

As a legal enthusiast in training, Amb. Bashir has consistently demonstrated a rare blend of vision, leadership, and expertise, inspiring countless students and also lawyers. Asides attaining the position of Justice, Amb. Bashir holds other achievements including, serving in the position of a Research Officer for hiLAWrious Organization, a signed writer of Iko Africa and has held the position of Judge of the African Law Students Association, India Chapter from January 2024. His impressive trajectory is marked by numerous achievements, accolades, and recognition from both his peers and legal practitioners. 

During his first official communication after his appointment, he stated “this milestone marks a significant moment in my career, and I am deeply grateful for the trust and responsibility bestowed upon me”. He equally promised to serve “with dedication, upholding justice, and contributing to the continued growth and excellence of our esteemed institution”.

 

This feat is indeed a testament to the unwavering commitment of Sir Amb. Mukaddam to make great impact in the legal world categorically. We celebrate this great achievement of the President on this new feather added to his cap and we are rest assured he will deliver nothing short of excellence given his momentous academic, legal and leadership history.
