ADDRESS BY THE DEPUTY EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Distinguished readers,
It is with utmost pleasure that I present to you the October-November-December edition of the ALSA-NIG newsletter. I am, particularly more excited to announce the theme central to this edition, thus; “Technology and Human Rights: Navigating the Digital Frontier”. We believe that this theme is not only timely but resonates deeply with the concerns of the present time.
In today’s increasingly digital world, it is indisputable that technology possesses the ability to both promote human rights and facilitate the violation of same. The influx of more sophisticated digital tools such as the internet, smartphones, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital platforms have made technology central to the ways in which individuals live and carry out activities. Such digital frontiers have gone on to shape public and private life rudely interrupting the integrity of human rights. More specifically, technology has disrupted the promotion of the right to privacy through widespread data collection and surveillance technologies, the extant digital divide has also interrupted the facilitation of equality and access to resources, among others. Thus, it is expedient to investigate these circumstances and proffer practicable solutions to them.
This edition is, therefore a compendium of well written articles that critically examine the impacts of technology on human rights. Through adroit research and in-depth analysis, these featured works have gone on to make realistic recommendations on the ways to navigate, beneficially the digital frontier while still promoting human rights.
Also contained in this edition are poems, certain deserving recognitions and news reports on activities going on within the ALSA-NIG space.
I extend my profound gratitude to our esteemed contributors, whose thoughtful contributions have made this edition a resounding success. I also appreciate the Chief Editor and other members of the ALSA-NIG Editorial team for their dauntless support. Your efforts gave substance to these ideas.
The year ends with this publication and I, therefore cease this opportunity to extend the season’s greetings to you, bright minds, while keeping faith in your constant and continued support.
I sincerely hope that you find this edition absolutely enriching.
Have a great read.
Compliments of the Season!
