ADDRESS BY THE DEPUTY EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Distinguished readers,

The Editorial team of ALSA-NG is pleased to launch the August/September edition of her monthly newsletter and I share, specifically in this pleasure. I am, particularly elated to announce the theme explored by this edition, thus: Accessing Progress, Amplifying Impact: The Nigerian Story of SDGs Implementation. There is no doubt that this theme is germane and timely considering the relevance of the Sustainable Development Goals and the regrettable trajectory of Nigeria towards its attainment.

Since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 by the United Nations as a pivotal milestone to its development agenda, Nigeria has grappled with a plethora of strategies, usually policies geared towards the attainment of these goals. As a matter of fact, the expedience and urgency of these goals have been rehearsed to the stakeholders and citizens of the nation constantly in conferences, national events and any opportunity that, thus presents itself. The paramountcy of these goals is specifically embedded in the fact that Nigeria’s reality currently exhibits deep levels of the hardship and vices the goals seek to eliminate. Conditions like poverty, climate change, poor conservatism, gender inequality, poor education among others are the primary points of interest of the SDGs.

This edition, therefore, is a meticulous and enriching collection of articles that analyse the strengths and weaknesses of Nigeria’s strategies in attaining the SDGs from diverse perspectives such as Youth-led initiatives and Intellectual property. Through structured and evidence-based approach, our contributors have presented policies and recommendations which seek to augment Nigeria’s extant efforts and give her a chance at the attainment of the SDGs.

As an icing on the cake, this edition also includes recognitions to Nigerian Law students who have shown exceptional diligence and excellence in their various endeavours.

My profound gratitude goes to the contributors without whom the efforts put into this publication will be meaningless. I also express my thanks to the Editor-in Chief and members of the editorial board for their relentless support. This publication would not be possible without your creativity, energy and dedication.

While we draw the curtain on this month’s publication, we continue to solicit for your thoughtful submissions in forms of articles, case reviews, short stories, poems and other papers that resonate with the pursuit of a just and sustainable society.

We hope you find this edition insightful, enlightening and engaging. Thank you for your continued engagement.

Do have a great read, bright minds!

Favour Iruoma Lazarus

Deputy Editor-In-Chief, African Law Students’ Association, Nigeria (ALSA-NG) Editorial Board.
