On May 28th, Menstrual Hygiene Day, an educational visit was conducted at Government Girls Secondary School to raise awareness and educate young girls about the importance of menstrual hygiene. The event was organized by BUK Law Clinic, in collaboration with the office of the Women Commissioner, African Law Student Association of Nigeria
The program commenced with a brief introduction to Menstrual Hygiene Day and its significance. The facilitators provided comprehensive information on menstrual health, including the biological aspects of menstruation, the importance of maintaining good hygiene, and the use of sanitary products. Interactive sessions were held where students could ask questions and share their experiences, fostering an open and supportive environment.
Workshops were conducted to demonstrate the proper use and disposal of sanitary products. The facilitators also emphasized the importance of breaking the stigma associated with menstruation and encouraged the students to discuss menstrual health openly and without shame.
In addition to the educational sessions, the students were provided with menstrual hygiene kits containing sanitary pads, soap, and informational brochures. The visit concluded with a pledge by the students to maintain good menstrual hygiene and to support their peers in doing the same.
The educational visit was a resounding success, empowering the students with knowledge and resources to manage their menstrual health effectively. The initiative not only promoted hygiene but also aimed to build confidence and reduce absenteeism among girls during their menstrual periods.
